This was the first year we went all out to mark International Women’s Day as a significant date that we believe children should experience.
It started yesterday with many of our staff wearing Girl Power t-shirts (see photo) and, as Friday is an easier day to reserve for special occasions logistically, we had the children from Year 1 to Year 6 working in different classes learning a lot more about why we celebrate IWD.
The teachers focused on:
- Frida Kahlo – her life and how she approached art,
- Gender equality, stereotypes and the perception of women in sport compared to men,
- Composing girl-empowering songs and performing them with ukuleles,
- Recent women in history like Malala Yousafzai
Here’re a few photos of the day and a big thank you to all the staff for their passion and enthusiasm.
