Rosemary Works Primary School is tucked away by the Regents Canal on the Islington and Hackney border. We are located at the end of Branch Place London N1, just off the main Southgate Rd. As well as being a great location for learning its extremely convenient for parents with numerous bus routes which reach the City of London financial district within 10 minutes. It’s also easy to drop off for those who need to use a car.

Pupils attend Rosemary Works primary school from many parts of North London. The majority of children live locally in the Islington and Hackney boroughs and cycle to school with their parents. Stoke Newington, London Fields and Dalston are all on our doorstep. Good transport links (we are close to Haggerston Overground Station) and our location outside the congestion charge zone make it possible for many pupils to travel from Holloway, Victoria Park, Bethnal Green and Bow.

Our position on the Regent’s Canal allows for off-road cycling from Walthamstow via Hackney and from West London via Regent’s Park. We have ample cycle storage facilities.

There are 2 docking stations for London’s free Cycle Hire scheme, just a couple of minutes away from the school. One is in Shoreditch Park, and the other on Hyde Road. These are immensely useful for people who are dropping off their children at school before heading for work in the City.

The School

We are very fortunate in the space we have, in the facilities in the school and those available on our doorstep, and we capitalise on every square inch!

Inside the school building we have bright, airy and stimulating classrooms, along with a library and a large hall for assemblies and dining. We have a stage for termly performances, and wall-mounted gym equipment. We have additional tutorial rooms for science, music and art.. In 2014, we commissioned Aberrant, a firm of architects, to completely refurbish the school and give it an amazing new lease of life. The staff, children and parents have all contributed towards the design incorporating their ideas. Stage 1 of the refurbishment was completed in September 2014 and looks fabulous.

In the classrooms we have a number of projectors, interactive whiteboards and electronic ‘smartboards’. We have desktop PCs and laptops for use in the classroom, and alongside the interactive whiteboard in the library.

Outside, we have two imaginatively designed playgrounds: our Early Years playground is designed with children aged 3 to 5 in mind. It has a soft safety surface, and is set up daily with age- appropriate play equipment. Children in the early years have direct access to the playground throughout the school day. Since September 2013 we installed a new feature in the playground – a trim trail. Great fun for our little ones to balance, crawl, climb and stretch!

Our large playground has raised allotment beds for planting, a pond, an outdoor stage, a segregated astroturf ball pitch, large wooden frame climbing and balancing equipment; outdoor interactive musical instruments; and quiet seating areas, plus space for the children to run free and play.

We have installed purpose-designed cycle and scooter parking facilities, and we have extended our buggy parking spaces to facilitate walking and cycling for those adults and children who want to be free of the car.

In addition to our own facilities we make use of the Britannia Leisure Centre, just opposite the school, for weekly swimming lessons. The children regularly have sports sessions in Rosemary Gardens’ purpose built tennis courts and football pitch.

One of our greatest facilities is on our very doorstep – the city of London! We exploit this facility at every opportunity, with outings and activities throughout the school term and during our holiday playscheme.
