Year 5 have had a great start to the year. They have thoroughly enjoyed the new history topic – WW2. So far, they have investigated the reasons for war, the allies and axis countries and their positioning in Europe. They’ve looked at The Blitz and the impact it had on London and produced some effective silhouette artwork.
They experienced the reality of WW2 rationing by measuring out children’s rations (7 sweets was a bit of a shock for them!) and by making their own digestive biscuits by following a recipe using rations. They also experienced the delights of Spam and dried mash! They have also learnt about the life of children and the reasons behind evacuation. They put themselves in an evacuee’s shoes (helped by their guided reading book – Goodnight Mister Tom) to write a letter home in role.
They cannot wait to find out more.
