Key Stage 1
In Years 1 and 2, the children are fully engaged with the primary curriculum. The Key Stage One Curriculum is topic-based, interesting and stimulating. A firm emphasis remains on teaching and learning the core subjects, so the pupils have daily English and mathematics lessons.
The topic-based approach provides cross-curricular opportunities for learning which are created through carefully chosen topics, that change termly. This approach allows the children to learn the foundation subjects, such as history and geography, within the context of their termly theme. We base our learning on the National Curriculum but we further enhance the curriculum to provide greater depth in key areas of learning.
Our pupils are encouraged to take an active part in their progress. Learning Objectives are taught to children for each lesson and a series of success criteria is also shared so that they know the steps to gaining a full understanding of the learning objective. Teachers use careful, constant observation and review, to ensure that each child is secure in their learning before they move on to the next step.
We believe that children should continue to learn through play, and to have fun, so we reserve time in the week for children to explore aspects of their learning through role-play and drama. Empathy and Personal, Social and Moral education are also key areas for focus at Rosemary Works, resulting in well-rounded individuals who learn at this young age how to become good citizens, have a good general knowledge and a love for learning.
